Being a children’s author was a childhood dream of mine—one I guarded and kept to myself for a very long time. I knew that if I were to say these words out loud and share my stories and ideas, I would need to find some courage. It could be embarrassing! But then I remembered my former students. I was a teacher for several years, and every day I asked my students to try new things, take risks, and trust in me. It seemed only fair that if I were going to ask this of them, I had to ask it of myself as well. My students exemplified bravery as they tackled new challenges daily. They believed they could do anything and be anything. So, a few years ago, I took inspiration from the kids I taught and began this writing journey.

I’ve lived in southern Oregon for most of my life. My husband and I raised our three kids and oodles of pets in a home full of laughter. I’m an outdoor girl who loves hiking, kayaking, and lying in my hammock reading a good book.

THE OWL WHO ASKS WHY is my debut picture book, but I also write for the educational market. I have books ranging in age from pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade.

I am currently working on a middle-grade novel, and I’m always imagining the next picture book. I would love to hear from YOU. Please, send me a message, ask me your questions, and tell me what you’re reading. And if you write to me, I’ll write you back.

Thanks for visiting!

Michelle
